Name Yourself......

If you could name yourself, give yourself a name, what would it be?  It is said that we have a name as a soul.  Some tribal societies and some cultures even now give a child a new name when they reach a certain age.   It is a rite of passage.  But much in western culture has gotten away from that kind of coming of age ritual.  So what name would you give yourself?  Think about it, a name describes us, makes a statement about who we are.   And deciding what we would name ourselves is a way of defining ourselves and deciding who we are.  You don’t have to tell anyone.  You don’t have to do anything about it.  Just think about what name you would give yourself and why.
Who are you?

  1. As for names.. .,the temptation is to accept one's name as a form of wholeness. But it is first, a link to a genetic history. Secondly it is a declaration of creation by parents, who, in some cases, create an idol to themselves.

Names are statistical points of convenience... what one does is a far more accurate device to measure one's Who.

  2. samovar met sparrowhawk later in the day that he wrote this
and samovar spoke of changing his own name...
a sort of illustration to sparrowhawk of his musings
samovar had taken on a truer identity. his first name now means signpost, or marker, to guide. which is what we want from a name.
no way would a word or two be able to express the breadth and beauty of our lives. i've always hated being reduced... deduced, obstructed, or dimmed. may i esp not do it to mine own self
